I've wanted to do this thread for a long time. I believe that this very short but splendid frame is a pearl of #TDoTD and that "Stay with me" is Merlin's most human and heartbreaking sentence. Merlin always speaks from the heart to Arthur: you are the best king, Camelot needs you, you are generous, etc. But he never expresses his feelings. Ok, he calls him friend, but nothing more. Instead,at this moment,he says "Stay with me". Not "Stay in Camelot", or "Camelot needs you", no: he wants Arthur to stay with him, FOR HIM. For the first time it is not the sorcerer who speak, but the man. For the first time it is Merlin's heart that speaks: he is Just a man who loves, who loves his master, his friend, his brother, the Love of his life. There are no more brakes, there's no more destiny, just a man who for the first time asks for something just for him. And on his face in a few seconds (masterful #ColinMorgan) we see love and despair, tenderness and supplication, all in just three simple, heartbreaking words: "Stay with me".

You know why I love AUs? Because the whole point of them is that everything is changed, and yet these two people are still going to meet and fall in love- that they’re so set in stone and so meant to be that you can change literally everything in a hundred universes and they’ll fall in love over and over again.
